Earlier this morning, I got a news from my colleague telling me that the price of fuel had been hiked up. OMFG. Not again? Well, read up the news and understand that the normal fuel that we used to fill (RON97) had been hiked up from RM1.80 to RM2.05. The government had introduced RON95 fuel as a direct replacement of RON92.
F*ck! Now I need to pay extra RM0.05 for a lower grade of petrol. God damn it. What else can I do about it?
Anyway, being optimistic in this situation, I will be pumping my petrol tank with RON95 as RON97 had been upgraded to a higher premium petrol. I would like to share below the list of the car that would be able to use RON95. This list was forwarded by my ex-colleague in Tan Chong Motor Assemblies.
The RON list
Most Mercedes-Benz engines, except the high-performance ones in the AMG and SL/SLK models, are able to run on fuel with RON91 to RON95. However, for optimum performance, RON95 is recommended while use of RON92 will result in marginally reduced output
For the Cefiro 3.0, Murano, 350Z/370Z, RON97 is recommended for optimum performance. For older models such as the Sunny 130Y, Bluebird, Altima and AD Resort, RON95 can be used.
Volvo engines can use RON91 to 98 RON unleaded petrol. Volvo Car Malaysia says that for best performance and lowest fuel consumption, RON98 (or closest RON) is recommended. For normal driving, RON95 is acceptable and RON91 should only be used in cases where RON95 is unavailable. Knock sensors in the engines will adjust the engine timing to prevent damage with very low RON fuel.
There are few tips that I can shared for those who are not car enthusiast as well as car enthusiast in order to get the best mileage from the fuel that being pump into the tank:-
1. Keep your car in a good shape by servicing the engine on schedule.
2. Make sure all the tires are well inflated.
3. Drive according the flow of the traffic. Do not suddenly brake all the time.
4. Plan your route and time for your journey in order to avoid traffic congestion.
5. Make sure do not keep any heavy stuff in your car all the time.
6. Change your gear in the low RPM (applicable for Manual transmission)
7. Do not perform sudden burst of acceleration as it will consume more petrol.
8. Constantly check any leakage of exhaust system (for old car).
9. Light-footed on the acceleration pad.
10. Do not turn on the engine for a long period of time as you are waiting for someone.
11. Choose a good light rim and tires (if you are changing tires now).
12. Re-tune back your car's ECU if it consume petrol like water.
13. Constantly check and clean on your air filter regularly. If possible, change air filter to those that able to wash and reuse (first investment will be a lil bit expensive but long run will be cheaper)
14. Drive according to the speed limit.
That are some of the tips that I regularly will performed to keep my fuel-mileage ratio in a stable condition.
Hope it helps.
